Don't get a convertible they said. It'll leak when it rains they said.
That rain last night sucked donkey balls.

Just don't get an early 2000's Mustangs. Those leak like nobody business.
My grandfather has one, it's sort of like a swimming pool.

They are notorious for the back window not sealing very well. Just glad it doesn't rain much here.

That sucks, I love Mustangs.
My Saab might not be too far off. These pictures are after several hours of drying.
This one is from November. Also after a few hours of drying.

Ouch, I'd be worried about the smell of mildew. Oh, and sometimes when water gets into the carpet, it reeks of whatever has been on the carpet before. Gross.
Do you need new seals of some sort? Or just a new convertible top in general?

The car is 15 years old. It needs a new top, but I got a quote of $3,500 for the whole job. That's more than I paid for it, so the thing is totaled >_<

My fiancee's saab only leaks near the windshield header on the passenger side, thank goodness. My 71 Cutlass on the other hand...leaks everywhere.

She's lucky... the pics I posted don't even show half the magnitude of how bad it can get. Maybe not as bad as your (badass) Cutlass though.

Is it the lining or the seal that leaks?

Both, unfortunately.

Thats unfortunate. Maybe see if you can source a fabric top and put it on yourself? I can never get the time to do the weather seal on my friends wildcat (nonvertible). He puts towels on the passenger side to deal with it. And a toolbox in the trunk covers the rust hole.
Just the seal would be something relative easy, but the lining, I dont want to think about it...

I'd be way in over my head. I have no garage, almost none of the needed tools, no AllData account, and a decent used convertible top from Goldwing Saab would be about $700 which is beyond my budget for right now. I'm basically just taking care of problems under the hood.

My NA and 2 NB Miatas all dripped a little where the top meets the door window. My NC didn't, which was a nice surprise.
The 2nd NB I had was a 2003 - I bought it in Dallas and drove it back to St. Louis. Of course it rained most of the trip home, and my left leg was nice and wet when I got home.

AllData? Just pick up a FSM and you're set. I wouldnt drop the coin on a new fabric top, but you could search forums/ebay/CL for a parts car or used one.

And one more reason to get a newer convertible. My NC has zero leaks!

I have owned a 1999 Sebring, a 2004 CLK 320 and a 2013 S5 in Chicago. They are always outside during the day, garaged at night. I have taken them through car washes. None of them ever leaked.

The Cutlass is lucky enough to stay parked in the garage if there is even a chance for rain. Sorry about your Saab though, I have been trying to find and fix her header leak since I met her and no matter what I do it always comes back. Swear that car lives on just to spite me.
